Bio

Tony D'Aveni started playing trumpet at the age 11 and is now a Boston based jazz trumpet player / teacher. He studied jazz at North Texas State University (now UNT) in the early '80s. He has received two National Endowment for the Arts study Grants to study with John McNeil ('94) and Jerry Bergonzi ('95) and has also studied with Hal Crook, Carmine Caruso, Bobby Shew, Laurie Frink, Mike Metheny, Don Jacoby, Rene Hernandez (Baltimore Symphony) and Jeff Conrad. Tony has played and / or recorded with Hal Crook, George Garzone, Danilo Perez, Art Farmer, Jeri Allen, Donny McCaslin, John Medeski, Steve Johns, John Blake, Bobby Shew, Rufus Reid, Artie Shaw Big Band, Al Vizzutti, Rob McConnel, Med Flory, Billy Pierce, Bob Moses, Jim Rotondi, Bruce Gertz, Dave Pietro, Rebecca Parris, Jimmy Dorsey Big Band, Frankie Laine, Kay Starr, Rita Moreno, Phil Wilson, Boston Big Band, Orange then Blue, Kenny Hadley Big Band, Dick Johnson, Shawn Monteiro, Helen Sung, Miles Donohue, Jeff Galindo, Bevan Manson, Owen Howard, and Herb Pomeroy. Tony has attended master classes presented by, Dizzy Gillespie, Nat Adderley, Clark Terry, Tom Harrell, Donald Byrd, Bobby Shew, Bud Herseth, Mike Brecker, Ron Carter, Joe Lovano, and countless others, and considers this part of his strong education in jazz. He has recorded four CDs as a leader "Home at Last', "Winter Wonderland", "Hip Displacement", and "Broken Hip" and can be heard as a sideman on many more. Mr D'Aveni is also the author of a series of five books published by Charles Colon - "Jazz Trumpet Technique: Volumes 1- 5". He has done clinics in Europe, Canada and all over the U.S.
